Manchin Announces Nearly $124 Million From the American Rescue Plan for 440 West Virginia Healthcare Providers

Charleston, WV – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) today announced $123,905,029 to support 440 West Virginia rural healthcare providers. This funding is from the American Rescue Plan, which included $8.5 billion specifically for rural providers through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). 

 

“Rural providers across West Virginia have worked tirelessly to provide quality, affordable healthcare to our fellow West Virginians during these difficult times while operating on a shoestring budget. Through the American Rescue Plan, hundreds of vital West Virginia healthcare providers will receive nearly $124 million in financial relief,” said Senator Manchin. “I fought hard to include $8.5 billion for rural healthcare providers to ensure they can continue to provide critical care in their communities. Previously, only 6 percent of the Provider Relief Fund was specifically allocated for rural providers, despite serving 20 percent of the population. As these funds are allocated, I will continue working diligently to ensure rural health providers get their fair share of these vital funds.”

 

·       On October 20^th, Senator Manchin led his bipartisan colleagues in urging the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to follow the intent of Congress for provisions in the American Rescue Plan by approving applications for funding from the $8.5 billion rural set aside for rural healthcare providers as defined in the statute.

·       On September 13^th, Senator Manchin announced West Virginia healthcare providers could apply soon for $25.5 billion in new funding from the Provider Relief Fund, including $8.5 billion specifically for rural providers that Senator Manchin fought to include in the American Rescue Plan.

·       On August 26^th, Senator Manchin led 42 bipartisan Senators in urging HHS to distribute the funds remaining in the Provider Relief Fund and other healthcare relief programs.
